Solutions:
I finally told my
teacher about the OCD, although it was really hard to tell someone
who might laugh at me. He advised me to call the Center for Students with
Disabilities. I had heard of them but didn’t think I would need
their services.
I found out that
there were others like me with invisible disorders. My Disability
Counselor reviewed my medical verification of disability and we came up with a plan.
Here are some of
the accommodations that were recommended to me to help manage my
condition;
-
I was eligible
for extra time on my exams,
-
after a
computer evaluation, using a computer was determined to be an
appropriate accommodation,
-
my instructors
were informed that I would be taking my tests in the High Tech
Center for Students with Disabilities (HTC),
-
the Counselor
also suggested that I do some work in the Instructional
Assistance Center (IAC) to learn new test taking skills and
perhaps lower my anxiety about exams,
-
I’m also going
to the health center to get help from the mental health
counseling office.
