When are
Accommodations not Appropriate and Reasonable?
A faculty member
asks, “How do I know whether an
accommodation is
appropriate and reasonable??"
Here are a few
guidelines as to what may be inappropriate accommodations:
-
Would it make a
substantial change in some essential element of the curriculum?
-
Would it alter
course objectives?
-
Would it impose
a financial or administrative burden on the institution?
-
Would it
propose a direct threat to the health and safety of others?
Of course, if you
have any questions about a specific
accommodation or
accommodations in general, the Counselors at the Center for
Students with Disabilities are always available to
answer questions.
