Personal Service Attendants

Sometime a student with a mobility impairment may have a personal service attendant.

A personal service attendant is an employee of the student who assists the student in performing services of a personal nature; such as drinking/eating, toileting, retrieving items from backpacks and purses, etc.

Jobs that a personal service attendant should not do;

  • answering questions or giving advice on questions,

  • scribing answers on any tests, essays or in-class discussions,

  • offering any thoughts or information on a student’s progress,

  • having any active participation with the educational process for the student.

The personal service attendant is only with the student for personal issues, not matters related to the education of the student.
