Working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Students at Glendale Community College

Glendale Community College

Each student’s accommodation needs are unique and the student is usually the best resource regarding what are the most effective accommodations for themselves.  You certainly can and should talk to the student about what accommodations he/she may need. But, remember, it is up to the student to take charge of their situation and petition for his/her accommodations.

When you continue reading this module - think about your own courses and these questions.

What challenges might students who are D/HOH face in your classroom or lab?

What can you do in the classroom to accommodate students with deafness or hard of hearing?

And what resources are available to faculty and students at Glendale Community College?

The Center for Students with Disabilities advises all students to take personal responsibility and advocate for the accommodations that they may need throughout their college experience.
