Now that you have
a clearer understanding of what a learning disability is, you will
no doubt begin to recognize it in some of your students.
So what should you
do if you encounter a student who is clearly having difficulty
learning in your classroom, and you feel he/she could benefit from
the services provided by DSPS? You don’t want to ask the student if
he has a learning disability, because that would be breeching his
right to confidentiality. Perhaps you’re nervous that suggesting to the
student that you suspect a disability might cause them to go into an
embarrassed tailspin.
