Real Time Captioning

A small number of D/HOH students, who do not use sign language as their primary communication tool, use a Real Time Captioner (RTC) in the classroom. In this instance, the RTC takes down everything that is said in the classroom via laptop, and the student reads it in real time on the screen.  The student and the RTC must sit next to each other, and the RTC will require electrical outlets for their equipment. Again, the student needs to sit in the front of the classroom away from glare.

Occasionally, a HOH student, especially one who is post-lingually deafened, may ask you to wear a microphone while they wear a FM receiving system similar to a hearing aid.
