Accommodations for Testing

·        For tests measuring concept understanding rather than writing/spelling skills, determine just how much accommodation you will allow in not penalizing a student for writing errors when concept understanding is demonstrated.

·        Remember, English is a second language, just as it is for an ESL student. If it is a history or other content class and not a spelling or English class – is it valid or important to take points off on grammar or spelling?  What do you do for an ESL student?

·        Accommodations for extra time can be an approved accommodation for D/HOH students.  The Center for Students with Disabilities can help with this.

·        For tests that might require a computer to do essays, etc., the student should contact their counselor who may recommend test taking at the High Tech Center for Students with Disabilities(SG 108).

·        For other tests, that do not require a use of a computer – but extra time, the student should contact their counselor who may recommend test taking at the Instructional Assistance Center (SG 112).
