The challenges for students with a psychological disability are different for a student who has a recognizable impairment such as blindness or a mobility impairment.

Sometimes these disabilities are not readily noticed and this type of situation can lead to misunderstandings.

An instructor may look at a student and think,

“You know he/she looks like every other student in the class, why should they need a note-taker?”

 Or,

“Why do you need extra time on the test?”

Psychological disabilities may be “invisible” to you as a faculty member, but they can greatly impact on the students’ participation and learning.
