Email Reference Service Guidelines
- E-mail reference service is provided to help users become self-sufficient in their research endeavors.
- The library provides advice on research with suggestions of possible print or electronic resources, and search strategies.
- Whenever possible, users will be directed to electronic resources that may provide them with the information requested.
Restrictions
Email reference is limited in its scope. The librarians cannot:
- Conduct extensive research for patrons. We provide instruction and assistance, but not research service.
- Retrieve and hold books or other materials.
- Create bibliographies or verify lists of citations.
- Provide medical, legal, investment, or tax advice.
- Answer questions for trivia contests.
- Interpret information.
- Look up statistics
- Do class assignments.
Turn-Around Time
Your question will be forwarded to the reference librarian on duty at the reference desk. The library will try to respond within two weekdays, but response time may vary depending upon the nature of the inquiry. Questions received during the weekend will be treated as received on Monday. No questions will be answered during hours or days that the library is closed.
