Classes in Fire Technology are offered for students interested in
preparing for careers in fire prevention and fire fighting. The
courses also provide in-service and upgrade instruction for fire
fighting personnel. A certificate of completion may be earned.
Instructors for the program are Fire Service professionals drawn from
the many fire departments in Southern California.
What courses are
needed?
These courses are required (3 units in each course):
Fire
Technology 101, 102, 103, 105, 115. These core classes are
offered online each semester.
In
addition, a minimum of 12 units must be selected from the following:
Fire
Technology 104, 107, 108, 109, 110, 111, 112, 114. Administration
of Justice 117. For the purpose of the Fire Technology Certificate the
Fire Academy classes 116, 117, 118, 119 are considered.
The
following courses are recommended:
Administration of Justice 101, 103, 107, Speech 101.
A
total of 27 units is required to apply for the Fire Technology
Certificate. Fire Technology courses are offered each fall and spring
semester with Fire101 being offered each semester. We offer three to
four Fire Technology courses a semester. Fire 101 is a prerequisite
for all other Fire Technology courses and cannot be taken concurrently
with other Fire Technology classes. Each Fire Technology class is
offered one night a week for the length of the semester.
Associate
in Science Degree in Fire Technology
All of the above listed courses (with the exception of Fire Academy
116, 117, 118, 119) must be completed. In addition
students must take an additional 33 units (or more) of other general
education courses at Glendale
Community College. If
