We are currently accepting applications
for VFA Class XVII which starts in January 2014. Apply now.
The Verdugo Fire Academy begins each year in January. Applications are
available year round here on the website and most of the year at Glendale Community College. There is a mandatory
orientation that must be attended for anyone interested in the Fire Academy.
This orientation will be with Academy staff to discuss your role in the academy. If you
miss the orientation you will not be considered for enrollment in the
academy. Dates for this orientation will be scheduled after your
application is received.
Remember this
academy is a year-long para-military program on Thursday Evening, Saturday's and Sunday's
only. This means you will be making a one year commitment for weekends.
There is no age, sex, race or religious discrimination in the academy.
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to apply. Your completed application
packet should include as much of the following as possible: a resume, an
application for Glendale College, an application for the Academy, copies of
college transcripts, copies of your EMT license, copies of any Fire Fighting
certificates you are already in possession of, letters of recommendation
from Fire Chiefs, Fire Captains or Fire Marshal's, proof of having taken the
CPAT exam and any other materials that pertain to working as a
fire fighter. Not having all of these things does not disqualify you from
being potentially admitted to the Academy but priority will be given to
those that have as complete an application as possible. You may keep adding
information to your application until the application acceptance deadline.
